James Reynolds (born 1953 in Long Beach, California), is a composer of music for radio plays, theatre and opera.
James Reynolds started his musical career as a percussionist in San Francisco and New York. In 1985, he commenced working and living in Cologne, Germany.
Since 1995, he has composed more than 70 radio plays for the West German Radio (WDR); he has also composed music for theatre and musical-theatre stage plays, ballet, and modern operas. His works have been performed in Germany, the United States, Switzerland and in Israel. The stage play "The Bible as Theatre", for which he composed the music, has played two seasons at the City Theater in Bern, Switzerland.
In January 2010, Reynolds composed the music for a stage play about the life and work of the German surrealist painter Felix Nussbaum, under the direction of Johann Kresnik, which was performed first at the Theater Osnabrück, Germany.[1]
At present Reynolds is working together with the childrens author Cornelia Funke on an opera based on her new book “Longspee”.[2]
